In morally upright, uptight times, and with little money and no backing, Hugh Hefner took a gamble. He launched Playboy magazine in 1953, which after a rough start defied the odds and became a huge success.
On February 29, the playboy potentate expanded his empire with his next big idea: the Playboy Club. The original downtown Chicago club clicked, and dozens more opened in some 30 cities worldwide. Cardholders reveled in the permissive atmosphere while sipping drinks served by buxom Playmates. Some of Hef’s bunnies went on to future fame, including actresses Sherilyn Fenn and Lauren Hutton, and rock star Deborah Harry. Speaking of Playmates, the search is on for Playboy’s 55th Anniversary Playmate!

Who’s Your Favorite Centerfold?

Chronicling all 675 Playmates from 1953 through 2006, Playboy: The Complete Centerfolds makes choosing a favorite almost impossible.

Like a Virgin

American Idol hopeful Bruce Dickson, 19, revealed that he is a virgin in more ways than one. Taking celibacy to another level, Dickson claims that he won’t lock lips with anyone until at he says, “I do” at the alter! While Dickson claims that he is a real man, the Idol judges seem to have another opinion.
